Rock Gin Distillery, a popular Cornish spirits producer based in Wadebridge, has announced the closure of its first retail shop outside of Cornwall, located in Corsham, Wiltshire. The outlet, which opened just 18 months ago, offered a taste of the West Country with its range of Cornish gins, spirits, and tasting experiences. Paul Roper and his family, who spearheaded the expansion, cited a challenging economic climate, escalating operational costs, and a perceived decline in the upkeep and appearance of the Martingate Centre where the shop was situated, as key factors in their difficult decision. This move reflects broader pressures faced by independent retailers, particularly those attempting to establish a presence beyond their home regions in the current economic landscape. The closure leaves another vacancy in the Corsham shopping centre, echoing concerns shared by other local traders about the retail environment.

The distillery is also embracing modern retail by accepting phone orders, offering free delivery within a 10 to 15-mile radius of Corsham, demonstrating their commitment to their existing customer base.
